Easy to do a day trip to Mombasa. SOO much history here and we recommend a city tour by one of the local guides which can take an hour, but well worth the insight and experience, as you discover the amazing history of Mombasa.

Cons:

Some parts of the beach have seaweed. So you may have to walk further down to areas where there is no weed or catch a rickshaw to the main beach which is usually clean from any seaweed.

Best Time to Visit

Although Kenya is justly celebrated for its national parks and wildlife, it's also home to some of the continent's best beaches. Framed by coconut palms, Diani is wide, white and very long. Coral reefs protect the beach from heavy surf, creating perfect conditions to swim, float or snorkel. Beachside bars and cafes provide snacks and liquid sustenance. After dark, some of Kenya's best coastal nightlife is on offer here.

Wildlife

The biggest attraction in the Ukunda region is the kilometer-long Diani Beach, but the popular holiday region also has many other highlights to offer. A visit to Mombasa with Fort Jesus, the beautiful old town and the old Dhow harbor is always worth a trip.
On a Dhow Safari from Diani Beach, you have the opportunity to explore beautiful snorkeling areas and dive sites. The tour to Wasini Island usually includes a delicious Swahili barbecue menu. At the Colobus Conservation Station, you can learn more about the protection of the rare monkeys.
If you want to see wildlife in the wild, you can even go on a real safari just a stone’s throw from Diani Beach: The Shimba Hills reserve is home to numerous buffalo, elephants, giraffes, zebras and rare species such as the sable antelope. Great contrast between the African wilderness and tropical beach life!

Weather & Climate

Diani Beach and the southern coast of Kenya have a warm, tropical climate all year round, similar to Mombasa. The usually high humidity is usually balanced by a pleasant wind and makes the weather very tolerable. Nevertheless, the climate in the region is largely determined by two rainy seasons: The big rainy season runs from about mid-march to the beginning of June, the small rainy season usually falls to the area from the end of October and November with slight runners until mid-December.

Best time to visit Diani Beach

The best time to visit Diani Beach in Kenya is the somewhat cooler months of July to September and the very hot (but dry) travel season from January to early March. Since the European summer holidays are usually in high demand, January and February offer a better price-performance ratio.

Dry Season

February is the sunniest month with an average of 10 hours of sunshine per day. Over the year, there are 8.6 hours of sunshine per day on average.

Wet Season

The climate in the region is largely determined by two rainy seasons: The big rainy season runs from about mid-March to the beginning of June, the small rainy season usually falls to the area from the end of October and November with slight runners until mid-December.

Medical requirements

Before a trip to Kenya, seek advice about required vaccinations from your doctor. For most people, malaria is the major concern. It is advisable to bring antimalarials, and to take other preventative measures such as covering up in the evening, and applying mosquito repellent. Spraying the room every evening before bedtime is a good idea if you aren’t sleeping under a mosquito net. The risk of malaria is worst at the heights of the rainy seasons.
